|Stronger than ever: Katie Piper has said that her scars (a result of an acid attack) are a constant reminder of what a strong person she is|
KATIE Piper has shared graphic images from the aftermath of the acid attack that changed her life, in a bid to encourage others to share similar stories.
The TV presenter, writer and charity worker posted two photographs on her Instagram account – the latest in a series of frank and honest revelations about her experiences since the brutal assault.
While clearly intended to shock, the pictures also remind Katie's followers how far she has come since the horrific assault that saw an ex-boyfriend throw sulphuric acid into her face in 2008.
The first snap, showing Katie in a burns recovery mask, is captioned: "There are far better things ahead than any we leave behind."
She wrote alongside the picture: "Even in our darkest times things truly can get better. For everyone who feels like they are stuck in a dark place – please keep the faith.
"If you have faced adversity and over come it I would love to hear your story – please share it with me here: www.katiepiperandyou.co.uk/i-did-it-too/"
The second, a similar image from later in her recovery – and possibly referring to her attacker – is captioned: "Don't ever let anyone silence you."
Katie, who is mum to ten-month-old Belle Elizabeth and is planning her wedding to fiancé James, wrote: "When I look in the mirror my scars no longer upset me, they just remind me I am stronger than the person who tried to hurt.
"We all have scars whether they are on the skin or the soul. Remember only those who survive wear scars. Next time you look in the mirror repeat to yourself I'm proud to be a survivor."
Katie has since received a flood of supportive replies to the posts from her Instagram followers.
