One Direction are the most in-demand X Factor act... despite coming third

ONE Direction have become the most in-demand act in X Factor history, despite only having come third.

A chart of the top five acts for gig sales from the show reveals the boyband, who were runners-up to Matt Cardle and Rebecca Ferguson in 2010, as the most popular.

And they are so huge their gigs outsell the other four acts PUT TOGETHER.

Two of the other acts in the top five, JLS and Olly Murs, did not win the show either.

JLS came second to Alexandra Burke in the 2008 series, while Olly Murs was runner-up to Joe McElderry the following year.

The top five for 2012, according to ticket marketplace Viagogo, is:

1. One Direction
2. JLS
3. Olly Murs
4. Alexandra Burke
5. Leona Lewis

Viagogo's Edward Parkinson said: “Although One Direction came third in the contest in 2010, they were the most in-demand act of 2012.

"Tonight’s finalists James Arthur, Jahmene Douglas and Christopher Maloney can take heart in the fact that, when it comes to the X Factor final, winning isn’t everything - three of the top five most successful X Factor artists ever were runners-up in the competition.”
