New York: Andy Murray beat Novak Djokovic to win the US Open 2012 title in five sets, ending Britain’s 76-year wait for a men Grand Slam singles champion.
Murray was reeling going into the decisive set after Djokovic rallied from two sets down to equal the match. But Murray then took 3-0 lead against the Serb.
Murray crouched to the court with both hands over his face as he claims win after a record 4 hours, 54 minutes thriller.
Fred Perry won Britain’s last Grand Slam men’s title in 1936 at the US Championships, the Open’s predecessor.
