Andy Murray beats Novak Djokovic to win US Open

New York: Andy Murray beat Novak Djokovic to win the US Open 2012 title in five sets, ending Britain’s 76-year wait for a men Grand Slam singles champion.

Murray beat defending champion Djokovic 7-6 (10), 7-5, 2-6, 3-6, 6-2 on Monday in four hours 54 minutes on Arthur Ashe Stadium.

Murray was reeling going into the decisive set after Djokovic rallied from two sets down to equal the match. But Murray then took 3-0 lead against the Serb.

Murray crouched to the court with both hands over his face as he claims win after a record 4 hours, 54 minutes thriller.

Fred Perry won Britain’s last Grand Slam men’s title in 1936 at the US Championships, the Open’s predecessor.
