William and Harry hit the surf in Cornwall

The rest of the British people - including his wife - were on the edge of their seats yesterday watching the Wimbledon action but the Duke of Cambridge did not have a care in the world as he and Prince Harry messed about bodyboarding on a beach.

Pictures of the brothers enjoying a relaxing time in Cornwall were in stark contrast to the anxious faces of the Duchess of Cambridge and her sister Pippa Middleton, as they watched Andy Murray bid to become the first homegrown men's singles champion at the tennis tournament since before the war.

When William was offered a seat in the Royal Box to watch the final he said that an "existing commitment" meant that he could not attend.

The pictures of the royal pair on a beach showed just what he meant as he and Harry shunned the limelight on SW19 and went apparently unnoticed by other members of the public as they splashed about in the surf.

Dressed in a black wetsuit, William joked with Harry as the pair braved the elements to enjoy some time together.

It was his wife - together with a host of politicians and A-list celebrities - who were left to endure the ups and downs of the Wimbledon final, and the agony of Murray's eventual defeat.

William, 30, has been known to enjoy surfing before, on his stag do in Devon.

This time, he and Harry chose to go to Polzeath in Cornwall, a favourite resort of well-heeled holidaymakers and celebrities such as Hugh Grant, where David Cameron visited last summer.
