Emma Watson First Look: Perks of Being a Wallflower Trailer (VIDEO)

Emma Watson takes one step closer to a post-Potter leading role in “Perks of Being a Wallflower.” She plays a spontaneous, wild and even sexy character–most un-Harry-Potter-like.

Although she was a central character in the Potter movies for almost a decade, she’s been low-keying film roles since the series came to an end with “Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, Part 2″ last year.

It likely because she’s juggling her education with a booming career as a fashion icon. She studied at Oxfordand is reportedly back at Brown University, hopefully graduating this year.

Her film appearances have been limited to 2011′sMarilyn Monroe pic, “My Week With Marilyn.” She had a minor role as the love interest of the movie’s leading manColin Clark, played by Eddie Redmayne.

“Perks” is based on the popular coming-of-age novel byStephen Chbosky, who also wrote and directed the film.

“Perks” opens Sept. 14. Check out the trailer below:

Watson is part of an ensemble cast that includes Logan Lerman, Paul Rudd, Ezra Miller, Kate Walsh, Dylan McDermott, Mae Whitman and Melanie Lynsky.

“Perks,” however, will be depending on Watson’s star power. She plays Sam, a free-spirited outcast who takes high-school freshman Charlie (Lerman) under her wing.

Charlie must cope with his own mental issues while trying to figure out where he fits in. Seniors Sam and stepbrother Patrick (Miller) introduced him to sex, drugs and the wider world.

Watson also stars in Sofia Coppola’s upcoming movie “The Bling Ring,” about Hollywood teens who burglarized the homes of celebrities.
