Gwen Stefani is unrecognisable as a fresh-faced teen (VIDEO | 6 PICS)

Fresh-faced: In another shot which she said was five years before No Doubt, Gwen sports a short, tomboy haircut

With cropped boyish blonde hair and a round face, the teenager posing with the brown haired boy is just about recognisable as fashionable singer Gwen Stefani.

The No Doubt star is the latest celebrity to join Twitter, and has attracted 26,000 followers after less than 24 hours online.

And her venture into the social networking world has apparently turned the singer nostalgic, as most of her posts have been old pictures of herself pre-stardom.

The 42-year-old, famous for her experimental taste in style, looks a far cry from her youthful days as a fresh-faced teen.

In one picture, the singer and her brother Eric pose side by side, dressed in what appears to be their Sunday best, in 1983. Gwen wrote: 'So cute me and eric 83' wish i still had that dress.'

Walk down memory lane: Gwen Stefani has joined Twitter, and immediately began posting nostalgic pictures to the site, like this one of her and brother Eric in 1983
Another shot sees the siblings with their arms around each other with the caption: 'Me & my super cool brother eric s - 8th grade - holding autographs of our favorite band madness - 5 years before nd.' (No doubt)

Stefani, who has been back in the recording studio with her old bandmates after a break to focus on her solo work and fashion line, also posted a video, dated 1991.

She wrote: 'I remember this girl - still the same voice a little deeper hair a little lighter! gx'

In the video Gwen discusses the band, who she says had been together for four years at that point, and their early days performing at gigs.

It ends with her being asked whether she wants to be 'a big star and tour the world?' to which Gwen replies: 'Yes. I want to be a star,' flashing a grin at the camera.

Stefani has been pictured arriving at an LA studio with her fellow No Doubt stars, Tony Kanal, Adrian Young and Tom Dumont, in recent weeks.

Hello Twitter! For her first tweet Gwen announced that she was making music with her old bandmates again
Their new album will be the band's first new release in over a decade, after Rock Steady in 2001.

Her first tweet after joining Twitter was to announce: 'I know how I'm gonna celebrate! By making music today with @TonyKanal @TomDumontND @AdrianYoungND'
