A florist and her best friend, the princess, have been crowned the My Kitchen Rules 2012 champions.

Leigh Sexton and Jennifer Evans won the third series of Seven Network’s cooking competition in a tight contest against fellow South Australians Nic Mazzone and Rocco La Bella.

“I never thought we’d get in, let alone win,” Leigh said after they were announced the winners.

“It goes to show that anything is possible. It’s the most proudest (sic) moment of my entire life.”

It was neck and neck throughout the five-course dinner with both teams impressing the judges with their cooking skills.

Best friends Leigh and Jennifer cooked crab congee, scallops in XO sauce, quail with barberry and quinoa, wagyu beef ribs with bone marrow and cauliflower puree, and chocolate hazelnut cake.

Childhood mates Nic and Rocco served up seared moroccan tuna and cured salmon, bug tails with fennel puree and chorizo essence, spatchcock two ways, pork belly with potato discs and fresh horseradish, and chocolate and raspberry pop delight.

The girls scored a total of 58 out of 60 for their five-course meal while the boys were awarded 52 marks out of 60.

The judges praised Leigh and Jennifer for their contemporary, full-flavoured menu they said showed great technique and intensive research.

Judge Pete Evans said the pair cooked a huge range of dishes throughout the competition.

“The thing I love about you was the surprise,” he said.

“I never knew what you were going to produce.”

The judges said Nic and Rocco had done a great job and had worked well together in the kitchen.

“It’s so fantastic to see two childhood friends who have grown up cooking together,” guest judge Tobie Puttock said.
