Britney Spears Not Joining NBC's Hit Series 'Smash'

Britney Spears is sticking to the music after all. The rumors that the superstar might be heading to the prime time show Smash has been circulating for the past few days. In what seemingly was a perfect fit for the artist is just a dream after all.

According to Gossip Cop, an online celebrity site focusing on debunking rumors, they have confirmation that the entertainer never had an interest being on the NBC show. The show, a musical based loosely off the life of Marilyn Monroe has some big celebrities including Debra Messing, Anjelica Huston and former American Idol star Katharine McPhee. Adding Britney Spears to the mix would have been one more reason to watch the show.

Calling the rumor starter Perez Hilton "less-than-reliable," the site reflects on how they found out the rumor was false. Asking the production company of the collaboration status, it discovered she isn't even in talks with the show making a guest segment impossible.

While Britney Spears and Smash might be the perfect match in for an audience, it appears in the entertainment business won't see it happening anytime soon. As Spears is now engaged and raising her two kids, perhaps it is a good decision for her personally, and the fans can dream pop in her album to enjoy her music.
